AREAS OF IMPACT HONOREES

PRAYER & SPIRITUALITY
Beverly and Joel Altman
Read The Altman's Impact Statement
“Ever since the ‘miracle on 18th street,’ our family believed that our house of worship was our spiritual home. Being a part of numerous expansions and renovations over the years, and the close relationship that we developed with Rabbi Steinhardt, it was our honor to assist with our endowment so there would be additional funds in order to attract the brightest and best rabbis that maintained the high standards established by Rabbi Steinhardt’s leadership and teachings.”

EDUCATION & LEARNING
Amy and Fred Weiss
Read The Weiss' Impact Statement
“Lillian, Philip, and Gerry Cooperman Academy for Adult Jewish Learning named after my family fulfills a dream of Jewish education that was achieved only after the death of my parents and now my brother. It is a wish to provide our community with meaningful opportunities for continued learning. Fred and I and our families hope we have achieved this goal.”

MUSIC & CULTURAL ARTS
Margie Browner Marks
Read Margie's Impact Statement
“My deep, longstanding love of music inspired me to join the newly-formed concert committee 35 years ago. I am so proud of the growth we have made in so many areas such as sponsorship, ticket sales and outreach. It has truly been a labor of love. My hope is through our Legacy program, we will continue to keep music alive at B’nai Torah for many years to come.”

SOCIAL ACTION
Meryl and Ron Gallatin
Read The Gallatin's Impact Statement
“It’s our responsibility to clothe the poor and feed the hungry; Isiah’s words heard every Yom Kippur. We created Hands On Tzedakah (HOT) to offer those who can give the opportunity to donate most efficiently to those in need, without concern about overhead. Seven years later, Rabbi Steinhardt introduced us to Summer Faerman and presented a thoughtful outline for a ‘companion’ program for BTC, which we named Tzedakah, Learning & Chesed
(TLC). Summer has taken learning and chesed to new heights with amazing mitzvah programs throughout each month, as well as Mitzvah Day each fall. Learning, volunteering, and giving beyond our synagogue has made an impact in our community. We’re proud of how so many others are helped!”

COMMUNITY & FAMILY
Hedy and Dr. Bryan Wasserman
Read The Wasserman's Impact Statement
“For more than 43 years, B’nai Torah has been our family’s home away from home. Five generations have prayed in the Sanctuary, celebrating life’s milestones and supporting one another through moments of joy and loss. Our children and grandchildren have grown up here, carrying forward our family’s deep connection to this community. B’nai Torah has shaped our lives and remains a lasting source of meaning, belonging, and shared history.”

OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT
Eda and Cliff Viner
Read The Viner's Impact Statement
“B’nai Torah has been the center of our family’s religious, spiritual, cultural and social life for forty years. Our important life cycle events and simchas have taken place at B’nai Torah. It has always been a place of meaning, learning, celebration, and comfort for us. For our family, there is no institution or organization that provides the multitude of tangible personal rewards that B’nai Torah gives to us and all it’s congregants.”
AND HONORING

Spencer Sax
FOR HIS CHAI ANNIVERSARY OF LEADING THE B'NAI TORAH FOUNDATION
Read Spencer's Statement
“My wife Carie and I joined B’nai Torah 40 years ago. Our children were named at the old building on NW 4th Ave. and had their Bat Mitzvahs at our current location. However, it was the opportunity to be part of leadership in various capacities and to work with Rabbi Steinhardt that got me hooked on B’nai Torah. Over the years I was fortunate to have chaired the Nominating Committee for trustee positions and chaired the Budget and Finance Committee. Although those committees perform extremely important roles in the current operation of the synagogue, my position as President of the Foundation has allowed me to be part of guiding the future of B’nai Torah. It has given me the opportunity to work with the true leaders of the synagogue and the larger community over the years and I can tell you they are amazing people who initially helped to make our synagogue one of the pre-eminent Conservative synagogues in the country and who now help keep B’nai Torah in the forefront of the Conservative movement.”
