Tali Ysia made Aliyah from Ethiopia as part of Operation Moses. She has led large-scale educational and social initiatives in Israel and worldwide. 400 Miles to Freedom is a documentary in which filmmaker Avishai Mekonen tells the story of his escape from Ethiopia to Israel as a child during Operation Moses after surviving kidnapping and torture. The film is praised as a thoughtful and engaging exploration of identity, faith, and the diversity of the Jewish diaspora. Movie is mainly in Hebrew with some English and subtitled.

The SIGD holiday, is an ancient celebration of the Beta Yisrael community of Ethiopia that symbolizes the renewal of the covenant with God and the longing for Jerusalem and return to Israel.

Tali Ysia’s journey began at just four years old, when she walked for two and a half months through the Sudanese desert with her family as part of Operation Moses, the historic effort to bring the Jews of Ethiopia to Israel.  Since making Aliyah in 1984, Tali has dedicated her life to leading impactful educational and social initiatives in Israel and around the world.
