Lillian, Philip and Gerry
Cooperman Academy
for Adult Jewish Learning

We are delighted to share with you the Adult Education programs at B’nai Torah Congregation, presented by the Lillian, Philip, and Gerry Cooperman Academy for Adult Jewish Learning. This year’s offerings include a rich variety of classes, scholars-in-residence, author series events, Women’s League and Men’s Club programs, and so much more, each designed to bring our community together in meaningful learning and connection.

For more than 20 years, the Cooperman Academy has been at the heart of adult Jewish learning at B’nai Torah, offering opportunities that are diverse, engaging, and relevant. This vision became a reality thanks to the generosity of Amy and Fred Weiss, who sought to make a lasting impact on our community. After conversations with Rabbi Emeritus David Steinhardt, they recognized that creating a vibrant program of adult Jewish education would be a powerful way to honor and perpetuate their family’s legacy.

With their leadership and ongoing commitment, the Cooperman Academy continues to flourish and welcome learners of all backgrounds and interests into a shared journey of exploration, growth, and connection. We are deeply grateful to Amy and Fred for their vision, and to each of you who make our learning community so strong.

Special Learning Programs

B’nai Torah’s Special Programs bring together stories, history, music, and culture that inspire and connect us as a community. From personal journeys and thought-provoking book talks to films, lectures, and cultural events, these gatherings open doors to learning and reflection. With topics that honor heritage, explore contemporary issues, and celebrate Jewish life in its many forms, participants are invited to engage with meaningful experiences that uplift both mind and spirit.

Lunch & Learn

Lunch & Learn is a weekly opportunity to study and share community over an hour of engaging teaching with our Rabbis and guest educators. Held each Tuesday at noon, these sessions explore a wide range of themes—from Jewish law and spiritual practices to heritage, contemporary Israel, and questions of faith. Participants are welcome to bring lunch and enjoy learning that is both accessible and enriching, offering wisdom to carry into daily life.

Daily Multi-Session Classes

B’nai Torah’s multi-session classes invite learners to dive more deeply into Jewish learning through ongoing study and conversation. Covering subjects such as Hebrew at all levels, Talmud, Midrash, Mussar, Jewish history, culture, and interfaith study, these courses provide opportunities for growth and connection over time. Whether discovering the richness of Yiddish, exploring biblical stories, or engaging with the teachings of great sages, participants gain tools for understanding, reflection, and meaningful Jewish living.

Class Information & Registration

Most Lillian, Philip, and Gerry Cooperman Academy for Adult Jewish Learning classes are free and open to the community. We kindly ask that you consider a donation to support Adult Education so we can continue offering the high-quality learning you value. Non-members are welcome to join at a nominal fee.

Advance online registration is required for each class. This helps our teachers
prepare, ensures proper room assignments, and lets us know if you’ll attend in person or online. We offer hybrid learning when possible, but please note that hybrid classes are not recorded.

We look forward to learning together in the year ahead!
