This course explores the culture associated with the Yiddish language, a culture that developed over a thousand years in Europe and was brought to America with the great wave of immigration at the turn of the century. Yiddish language and Yiddish culture are global. We will explore this idea through literature, poems, songs and films, all in translations. All readings materials are in English. No prior knowledge of Yiddish language required.
